Audience Enlargement and Enrichment in the field of Culture
Cultivating a community that respects and embraces human diversity is one of the most important global challenges of our time. One possible response to this challenge may be identified in the democratization of the cultural and creative industries. At the same time, the opening up of cultural organizations/artists/cultural managers to several different audiences serves to enrich the services offered and enhance their viability.
The seminar led by Lida Tsene and Christos Papamichail aims to acquaint participants with concepts such as diversity, inclusion, participatoriness, and accessibility, and with the way these concepts apply to the field of Culture. Participants will come into contact with theories, methodologies and tools that will allow them to take their practices and activities to the next level. The seminar is intended for cultural managers, artists and various professionals working in or for cultural establishments who wish to expand their audience, reaching out to audience groups that are regularly left out of the design and implementation of cultural activities.
The seminar is online but also includes two meetings. The first meeting is a visit to the Onassis Cultural Center and a chat with the developers of programs targeting different audiences. During the second meeting, the participants of the seminar will attend a panel discussion with professionals from the field of culture with particular experience in accessibility, inclusion and participation issues.
Topics:
- The need for audience development in modern-day cultural organizations
- Audience research and participatory planning
- Diversity, inclusion and accessibility
- Communication, interaction and participatoriness
- Raising and managing funds
- Measurement & evaluation (social impact) and long-term viability
