A journey through ancient Greek poetry and drama with Mary Yiossi…

"Words (can) do it" at the Hellenic American Union

On the fourth event of the sixth season of the monthly poetic encounters “Words (can) do it”, Mary Yiossi, poet, philologist and translator presents excerpts of ancient Greek poetry and drama in both the original and translated version. Translations of the poems will be read by Panayotis Ioannidis, Despoina Sarafeidou and Vangelis Christou.

As a translator of Ancient Greek poetry, Mary Yiossi has delved into works by Sappho, Theognis, Pindar and Bacchylides and has translated Euripides’ play Heracles as well as excerpts of tragedies by Aeschylus and Sophocles.
