Poetic encounters: “Words (can) do it”
Event dedicated to the important American poet, Robert Frost...

Robert Frost (1874-1963) had a great impact on the public during his life, as he continues to do today. Particularly loved in Greece, the poet visited the country 58 years ago as a guest of the Hellenic American Union. His poetry was also the focus of a tribute which took place in 1993 at the Hellenic American Union on the 30th anniversary of his death.
During Frost's lifetime, while some people enjoyed his "accessible" poetry, others considered him poetically "conservative". Today the distinctive features of his work can be distinguished more clearly: the musicality of his verses, the directness of expression, but also a contemporary dark background in the controversial content of some of his poems.
This evening of poetry brings together 15 poets to read selected poems of Robert Frost in both the original and a new translation especially made for this event.
Participating poets include:Orfeas Apergis, Mary Yossi, Myrsini Gana, Antonia Gounaropoulou, Yiannis Doukas, Katerina Iliopoulou, Lenia Safiropoulou, Lefteris Zacharioudakis, Panayotis Ioannidis, Lena Kallergi, Dimitra Kotoula, Stergios Mitas, Artemis Michailidou, Christiana Mygdali and Kostas Plisiotis. Stefanos Bacigal and Chris Sakellaridis will read the original poems.
