Two California Greek poets in Greece
Presentation of new books of poems by Nanos Valaoritis and Dinos Siotis…

In cooperation with Apopeira Editions the Hellenic American Union presents two new poetry books, Nanos Valaoritis’ Greenhouse’s Flowers and Dinos Siotis’ Peeling the Poem. Both poets spent a significant amount of time in San Francisco.
Nanos Valaoritis was born at Lausanne in Switzerland in 1921. He studied Classic Literature and Law at the Universities of Athens, London and Sorbonne. In 1968 he became Professor of Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at San Francisco State University, a position he held for twenty-five years. He has written poetry since 1939, and he has been honored with many awards, including the National Poetry Association Award in 1996 and the Grand Prize for Literature in 2009 in recognition of his life's work.
Dinos Siotis was born in Tinos in 1944, studied Law and Comparative Literature in Athens and in San Francisco, where he lived from 1972 to 1982. He has published many books of poetry and fiction, as well as 11 periodicals devoted to literature and politics, in Greece and the United States. His poems have been translated into French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Romanian and Chinese. He publishes the Greek literary magazine “(de)kata”.
