Cruise: Α floating archive
An exhibition of Vassilis Kofinas’ previously unpublicized archive curated by “hιστορισταί”…

Vassilis Kofinas (1934-2007) worked as a photographer in the Greek film industry for many years. During the dictatorship (1967–74) he traveled around the Southeast Mediterranean and Latin America, photographing and drawing portraits of people in sea ports, thus generating a remarkable, polyprismic recording of life in areas of the world experiencing a democratic deficit.
Kofinas’ archive of photographs and drawings was found in a semi-decrepit state a few years after his death. The exhibition sheds light on this unknown material both as historic content and as an "archival excavation." The original archival material forms the contextual narrative while the circumstances of its retrieval are presented in a simulation-type installation that poses questions over personal and collective memory, historic and archival conscience.
The exhibition, curated by “hιστορισταί”, is organized with the support of Cheapart.
