The Hellenic American Union and Rebecca Camhi Gallery present a talk by renowned American photographer Nan Goldin on the occasion of her exhibition at the Rebecca Camhi Gallery, which opens on March 19th.
Born in Washington D.C. Nan Goldin began taking photographs when still a teenager. In the 1980s, she introduced a new dimension to contemporary art photography by combining elements of both art photography and documentary photography in her work. The realistic style of her work was very influential. She is considered one of today’s leading photographers and is well-known to the general public.
Goldin’s work covers a wide range of subjects, the best known of which are portraits of persons living at the margins of society. Her pictures employ a very characteristic style to explore issues of friendship, love and identity. She has exhibited in such major galleries and institutions as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Georges Pompidou, Reina Sofia, and the Whitechapel Art Gallery. She lives and works in New York, Paris and London.
